Laura Feixas, ERAM student, winner of the Premi Joves Fotógraf(e)s de Catalunya 2024
Laura was born in Banyoles in 2006 and is currently studying the first year of the Degree in Audiovisual Communication and Multimedia at the University School of Arts ERAM. The Diputació de Girona, through INSPAI, Centre of the Image, has selected Laura Feixas’s photographic project Quimera as the winner of the 23rd edition of the Premi Joves Fotógraf(e)s de Catalunya.
Quimera is a photographic project of an artistic and experimental nature that stands out for its conceptual strength and visual quality. The awardee, Laura Feixas, explains that «a chimera is a dream or illusion that is a product of the imagination. It is something longed for despite knowing it is almost unattainable or even impossible.»
«There comes a point when reality tires us with its constant repetition. We always see the same four photographs, the same landscapes, the same faces, and the same colors, shapes, and elements. Everything seems familiar. It doesn’t surprise us either because we know we will never see reality differently, but how easy it is to imagine it and dream it.»
This series of photographs was born, according to the author, «from this need: to look at reality in a different way. In a distorted, altered, and manipulated way. In the end, the environment is the everyday one, what surrounds me, my home, Banyoles. But it is fun to imagine how it could be in another context or universe.»
The award carries a prize of €1,250 and, as established in the call, INSPAI, Centre of the Image of the Diputació de Girona, promoter of the Premi Joves Fotógraf(e)s de Catalunya, will organize an exhibition with the twenty images of the winning project, will publish a catalogue, and will hold the presentation next October at the Casa de Cultura of the Diputació de Girona.
