Good news for the Catalan audiovisual sector
The Catalan audiovisual sector has reached a new all-time high. According to the latest study prepared by ACCIÓ, the Audiovisual Cluster of Catalonia, and the Catalan Institute for Cultural Companies (ICEC), the sector’s turnover now exceeds €9 billion, a 6% increase compared to the previous year, and represents 2.9% of Catalonia’s GDP.
Beyond revenue figures, the study shows a sector that is expanding in terms of both business activity and employment. There are currently 4,457 audiovisual companies operating in Catalonia, 7% more than a year ago, employing 44,986 people. In addition, over the past five years, the number of startups in the sector has grown to 380 companies, strengthening its capacity for innovation and technological adaptation.
This positive trend is good news for students and future professionals in the Audiovisual Communication degree, as a growing and well-established sector generates more job opportunities, internships, and projects in which to develop the skills acquired at university.
The report was presented last Monday in Barcelona ahead of theISE (Integrated Systems Europe) trade fair, a key event for the sector that brings together audiovisual companies and professionals from around the world. The fair will take place from February 3 to 6 at the Gran Via venue in Barcelona. Among the highlights of this year’s edition, ISE will focus on cybersecurity applied to audiovisual devices, as well as on the creative and software fields, with initiatives aimed at audiovisual storytelling and immersive experiences.
As a result, the sector combines experience, talent, and technological creativity, making it clear that the Catalan audiovisual sector is no longer just about culture or entertainment. It is a solid, growing industry with the capacity to generate employment, innovation, and international reach.
