Ferran Joanmiquel, 50th Born Teatre Award
Ferran Joanmiquel Pla, professor of Dramaturgy and Applied Performing Arts in the Degree in Performing Arts – Acting, was awarded on the evening of Saturday, October 18, with the fiftieth Born Teatre Award, the best-endowed theatrical creation competition in Spain.
His play, “La solitud dels cossos celestes“, depicts an intense family drama through three female voices and a powerful astronomical metaphor. The piece triumphed over the other three finalists: Insectos, Los privilegios, and Alger 227.
The jury highlighted that “La solitud dels cossos celestes” was awarded not only for its emotional intensity and structural coherence but also for the richness and solidity of its characters, as well as for the sensitivity, linguistic nuances, expressive richness, and boldness of the text. According to the official statement, the work shows “an evident mastery of dramatic conventions” by the author.
This recognition adds to an already consolidated career. He has premiered more than a dozen works and has received several dramaturgy awards:
- Octubre de Valencia Award (2020) —currently the Pere Capellà Theatre Award— with “Tots els colors del blanc“.
- Sagunt Theatre Award (2021) with “Dones que parlen“.
- XVIII Andreu Solsona Short Theatre Award of Badalona (2024) with the monologue “Fúria” (an award he had previously received in 2015 with “La filla de Chagall“).
He has also stood out with his documentary theatre pieces:
- “El color de la llum” (2018)
- “El·lipsi” (2021), part of the Verbatim Theatre cycle at Sala La Planeta (Girona).
His most recent premieres include:
- Samurai (2023)
- “Una dona sense nom” (2024), both produced by La Mercantil de Balaguer.
Additionally, Joanmiquel has been linked to Sala Beckett in Barcelona and the European project Fabulamundi Playwriting Europe, which has allowed the international dissemination of his work. To date, his texts have been performed and read in France and Italy.
