ERAM places its Degree in Performing Arts and Acting at the center of experimentation at El Canal
The university of Arts ERAM school affiliated with the UdG is launching two creation laboratories this February, led by Alberto Díaz and Xicu Masó, to connect students with professional practice.
Salt, 2026. — ERAM (University of Girona) takes another step forward in its commitment to elite training in the theatrical sector. This February, the Degree in Performing Arts moves its activity to the rehearsal space at El Canal, where students will take part in two high-level “Creation Labs.” These sessions are not merely academic exercises, but laboratories where ERAM’s emerging talent engages directly with established industry professionals.
- Alberto Díaz and the psychology of the character (February 11)
Under the guidance of Alberto Díaz, students will explore the complexity of People, Places & Things by Duncan Macmillan. This collaboration allows ERAM students to delve into contemporary acting techniques, working on the duality of a protagonist who is both an actress and a patient in rehabilitation. The research will focus on how we construct our identity and how language and manipulation function as defense mechanisms in extreme situations.
- Xicu Masó and ensemble work (February 14)
The second major focus of the month will be led by director Xicu Masó, who will guide the exploration of The Colonel Bird by Hristo Boitxev. With two open sessions at 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, ERAM students will present the outcome of an intensive process centered on character construction within an environment of isolation and madness.
This project challenges students to manage the tone of a play that achieved international success, transforming a psychiatric institution in the Balkans into a space for reflection on the paradoxes of war and human dignity.
ERAM: A direct bridge to the industry
These creation labs reinforce ERAM-UdG’s pedagogical model, which conceives the Degree in Performing Arts as a fully immersive experience. By taking students out of the classroom and placing them in a leading production center such as El Canal, ERAM ensures that its students not only master technique, but also learn to apply it in real creative contexts, engaging with the challenges that define today’s Catalan theatre scene.
