During his degree in Audiovisual and Multimedia Production at ERAM – University School of the Arts – UdG, Genís Carreras began developing his interest in visual design and graphic communication. He later expanded his studies in the United Kingdom, where he obtained a BA in Graphic Communication from the University of Northampton with First Class Honours.
After graduating, he spent five years living in London, where he worked for several design and branding agencies. This period allowed him to consolidate his professional career and collaborate on visual communication projects for international clients.
He later decided to return to Girona to found Studio Carreras, his own independent studio focused on graphic design, branding and illustration. From this studio he works with clients from around the world, developing projects in visual identity, art direction, editorial design, iconography, packaging and illustration. His clients include companies and institutions such as Google and The New York Times Magazine.
His work is characterized by a minimal, conceptual and bold visual style, focused on creating ingenious and clear pieces of visual communication. This approach is also reflected in his book Philographics: Big Ideas in Simple Shapes, a project that explores philosophical concepts through simple shapes and which, in its third edition, has been translated into several languages, including Japanese.
Throughout his career, his work has been exhibited in cities such as New York, London, Paris and Barcelona, and has been featured in international festivals such as the Graphic Design Festival Breda and the Łódź Design Festival. His work has also received recognition including a Laus Award and a nomination at the World Illustration Awards, and has appeared in leading design publications such as WIRED, Fast Company, DesignWeek, Communication Arts and Étapes.
He currently continues to develop design and illustration projects for international brands, events and publications, maintaining a visual language based on synthesis, colour and conceptual strength.
